Godson Charity Tanzaniais Non-governmental Organization(NGO's), register under The NGOs Act of United Republic of Tanzania No. 24 of 2002 provides for the establishment of an umbrella organization for Non-Governmental Organizations to be known as the National Council for Non-Governmental Organizations

Porters are essential to the trekking industry because they help clients carry their gear and provide support. They are responsible for carrying heavy loads, such as tents, food, and water, and they often walk for long distances in difficult terrain. Porters also help clients set up camp, cook meals, and provide first aid. The Godson Charity Tanzaniaan organization that advocates for the rights of porters. Also works to improve the working conditions of porters, such as by ensuring that they are paid a fair wage and that they have access to safe and sanitary facilities. And provides training and education to porters, so that they can improve their skills and knowledge. Lastly, affiliated with partner tour operators who offer Kilimanjaro trekking expeditions. These tour operators agree to abide by the standards set by the Godson Charity Tanzania, such as paying porters a fair wage and providing them with safe and sanitary facilities.

    Fair Compensation and Working Conditions for Porters and Guides

    Associated Act: The Porter Protection Act

  • Tour operators and mountaineers must ensure fair compensation and reasonable working conditions for porters and guides.
  • Porters and guides should receive proper wages, adequate rest, and necessary equipment to perform their duties safely and effectively.
  • The Porter Protection Act:

  • This act mandates fair labor practices and protections for porters and guides working in the mountaineering industry.
  • Key provisions include:

  • Minimum wage and compensation standards for porters and guides. The Godson Charity Tanzaniaprovides proper wages to its porters as per the minimum wage set by the Labour Institutions Wage Order of 2013 (GN 196) of the United Republic of Tanzania. Porters are paid more than the set standard wage.
  • Maximum load limits for porters to ensure their safety and well-being. Loads are restricted to reasonable weight limits, which are measured in partner office and confirmed by the Kilimanjaro National Park Authority when they reach the respective gate or entry. As per Rule 12 of the Mountains National Parks Regulations of 2003, which limits the luggage to a weight between 15 and 20 kg,
  • Regulations for rest intervals and working hours to prevent exhaustion. The Godson Charity Tanzaniaalso provides proper shelter, as porters are given access to tents or provided with sleeping quarters & sleeping bags.
  • Requirements for proper clothing and equipment for porters and guides. We provides proper climbing gear (clothing) to its porters, including but not limited to technical clothing that is a prerequisite when trekking in high-altitude conditions, which includes water- and wind-resistant jackets, pants, gloves, base layers, socks, hats, sunglasses, and proper
  • Penalties for tour operators found in violation of these provisions, including fines and potential revocation of permits.
